This guide provides steps for creating and using custom currencies in CoinTracker. It's essential for tracking transactions of cryptocurrencies that are not fully supported by CoinTracker, ensuring accurate calculation of capital gains and taxable income.
How to Create a Custom Currency in CoinTracker
-
Go to the Settings page on CoinTracker.
-
Click ‘View custom currencies’
-
Click the ‘Add Custom Currency’ button at the top right corner.
-
Enter details like Symbol (e.g., BTC), Name, Description, and Price (USD) in the pop-up form.
-
After filling out the form, click ‘Save Changes’. Your custom currency will now appear in the custom currencies table.
How do I use my custom currency?
Now that you've created a custom currency, you can now manually add or import transactions using that custom currency. See our guide on how to manually add transactions for more information. This is commonly done when you have a token that is not supported by CoinTracker.
You can replace unrecognized or incorrectly mapped tokens with your custom currency. This is commonly done when there is a coin mapping issue where the wrong token is showing in a transaction. See our guide on transactions showing the wrong coin for more information.
Important Considerations When Using Custom Currency
Consistent Currency Symbol: Please ensure that all transactions involving the custom currency use the same symbol. This consistency is crucial for accurately linking transactions and tracking cost basis and capital gains on custom assets.
We want to support your token! After adding your custom currency, help CoinTracker list any missing cryptocurrencies by letting us know which assets are missing. You can request full support for any mis-mapped or unrecognized coins on this feedback board. Simply create a new post and specify the coin symbol, contract address, and blockchain.
