Accurate transaction history is essential for all portfolio tracking and calculations. Errors in capital gains, cost basis, or other numbers are often caused by incomplete or incorrect transaction history. To resolve these issues, review and update your transactions as needed in your CoinTracker account. Learn more below.
Tips to troubleshoot inaccurate transactions
Check for missing transaction history
This is often the main cause of errors. Make sure you've included your complete crypto transaction history, including all cold storage wallets and defunct exchanges. Refer to our complete transaction history checklist for further help.
Sync wallets
Manually sync your wallets by clicking Sync all on the Wallets page to include the latest transactions in your calculations.
Check Needs Review transactions
Missing or incorrect transaction details can affect your tax calculations and portfolio. These transactions will be flagged as Needs Review. See this help article for guidance on how to check and resolve flagged transactions.
Re-import wallets
Use the re-import feature to update your wallets without losing manual edits.
More common causes and solutions
If you’re still having issues after following the troubleshooting tips above, seeing the below for more help.
Ignored transactions
Check your ignored transactions.Even minor ignored transactions can significantly affect your calculations. Make sure you have justified reasons for ignoring these transactions. To review your ignored transactions, go to the Transactions page, click the Status filter > select Ignored.
Send transactions assumed taxable
Outgoing transactions are typically treated as taxable unless the receiving wallet is known. If an outgoing transaction is actually a transfer or trade, add the receiving wallet or exchange, or edit the missing transaction details to correct this. To review your send transactions, go to the Transactions page, click the Category filter > select Send.
Mismatch transfers
Manually edit mismatch transfers to ensure the correct transaction sides are aligned.
Uncategorized manual transactions in Other Transactions Wallet
Manual transactions will appear as uncategorized in the Other Transactions Wallet. If any of these should be associated with a tracked wallet or exchange, you must edit them to reflect the correct wallet or exchange. Also, make sure these manual transactions are not duplicates of auto-synced transactions from your linked wallets or exchanges.
Pending transactions
Pending transactions are not included in the current market value until the trade is completed. After the trade is complete, it will automatically be updated in CoinTracker.
Wallet-specific issues and solutions
Certain wallets and exchanges require extra steps for accurate tracking. Below are solutions for resolving these issues.
Coinbase Pro
If you've used Coinbase Pro, you'll need to add its transaction history to CoinTracker separately, even if your Coinbase account is already added. Due to Coinbase's infrastructure, Coinbase Pro must be added independently. If you didn't sync it before the API was deprecated, follow our instructions for adding Coinbase Pro history to CoinTracker.
Distributions and bonuses
For exchanges like Binance and KuCoin, manually add any distributions or bonuses not tracked via their API. You can add individual manual transactions or import a CSV with the missing transactions to the synced exchange.
De-listed coins
For de-listed coins, add the transactions and make sure they are tagged to the respective wallet. You can either add individual manual transactions or import a CSV with the missing data to the synced exchange.
KuCoin
For transactions before 2/18/2019 on KuCoin, refer to the KuCoin integration guide to sync your complete transaction history.
