Why are some of my transactions being automatically categorized by CoinTracker?
CoinTracker automatically categorizes DeFi transactions to enhance accounting accuracy, especially where default 'send' or 'receive' classifications fall short. This ensures transactions reflect the specific activity within your wallet and have the appropriate tax treatment.
For example, staking deposits will now be marked as 'Stake' catering specifically to DeFi protocols. These categories are applied automatically based on the DeFi protocols supported by CoinTracker so you don't have to do it manually. This feature impacts users with self-custody wallets on supported EVM chains and the Solana blockchain.
Note: Transaction categories may influence tax calculations—refer to our Transaction Category Definition guide for category definitions and tax implications.
Verifying If Your Transactions Have Been Auto-Categorized
To check if you're affected, review your transactions. Look for categories like Staking rewards
, Stake
, Lending deposit
, Add liquidity
, or other tags related to DeFi activities. Your account will visually display these tags, replacing generic labels such as 'Trade', 'Send', or 'Receive'.
Managing Incorrect Auto-Categorizations
If you're satisfied with the assigned categories, no action is needed. However, if the classification is incorrect, leverage our bulk-action feature for manual adjustments. Learn more about this process in our How to Use Transaction Categories guide.
