CoinTracker automatically detects assets from your transactions, but sometimes we might not recognize an asset when it's imported or it may not be supported yet.
Here’s how an unsupported asset may appear in your transactions and how to resolve this issue to ensure proper portfolio tracking.
Identifying an unsupported asset
- The asset ticker symbol is a placeholder circle with a letter.
- You receive a missing price history error.
Here’s an example:
Steps to troubleshoot unsupported assets
- If the asset was mistakenly identified:
- Update the transaction with the supported asset instead.
- If the asset is unavailable:
- Create a custom currency then follow the next steps in the article to account for multiple transactions with the unsupported crypto.
- Fix the missing price history error by updating the cost basis for the unsupported crypto transactions.
Steps to fix the missing price history error
For the unsupported asset, CoinTracker assumes the token’s value and cost basis as $0.
To confirm the $0 valuation is accurate:
- Click the [...] icon next to the transaction.
- Select Confirm $0 cost basis.
To edit the cost basis:
- Click the [...] icon next to the transaction.
- Select Edit cost basis.
- Fill out the details.
- Click Update to complete.
From the example above:
If you know the token's value on the date you received it, update the cost basis accordingly. For example, if SolFi was worth $1 when you received it, the cost basis for 333 tokens would be $333.
Once updated, this new cost basis will be used if you sell or dispose of the asset in the future. For instance, if you sell the 333 SolFi tokens a year later for $100, you would incur a capital loss of $233.
