What is the "Missing price history" error?
CoinTracker surfaces this message on a transaction when the value of an asset is not known and requires your confirmation. This will usually happens when CoinTracker can’t pull a complete price history for a received crypto asset. This is one of three 'Needs Review' flags for transactions.
In these cases, CoinTracker will conservatively assume the cost basis of your assets based on the price previous or later transaction value.
The 'Missing price history' message can affect both the cost basis or the proceeds, depending on the type of transaction.
Here is an example of the message where missing price history is causing proceeds to be $0:
In the example above, CoinTracker does not know the price of MFC on the date of disposal, so we’re assuming a proceeds of $0.00.
How to Resolve the 'Missing Price History' Error
For best results, please use a desktop browser to reconcile 'Needs Review' flagged transactions instead of mobile web browser or the mobile app.
- First, try to get any missing price history data that may be missing due to previously incomplete integrations by re-importing the wallet where the error occurs. It is always best to sync data, if possible, before making a manual edit.
- If that does not resolve the error, and you agree that the proceeds or cost basis is $0, click Confirm $0.00 proceeds or Confirm $0.00 cost basis, respectively.
-
If you want to add the missing data, click Edit cost basis or Edit proceeds in the error message, respectively, to confirm more accurate values.
- You will be directed to a modal window where you can enter the price of the token on the specific date of the transaction. CoinTracker will automatically calculate your proceeds or cost basis, respectively, based on the price added multiplied by the quantity of tokens. Re-Computed Cost Basis After Manual Edits
Every time you edit the cost basis or proceeds (or any manual edit, for that matter) for a transaction, those updates will trigger an automatic re-computation of the Cost Basis across your entire portfolio. You will see this reflected as a banner until the process is completed, which usually takes less than 60 seconds:
Depending on the complexity of your changes, this re-computation time may vary. If you make a large amount of updates and the re-computation banner persists we recommend waiting for the computations to resolve. The absence of the re-computation banner is an indicator that the calculations are complete.
