If you downloaded your FTX US transaction history prior to FTX US shutting down, you can import those transactions to CoinTracker to calculate your capital gains and losses. This article will walk you through how to convert an FTX transaction history file to a CoinTracker-compatible CSV file.
If you no longer have access to your FTX transaction history and these transactions aren't in CoinTracker, we recommend consulting a tax professional.
To import FTX US transactions to CoinTracker:
- Convert your FTX transactions to the CoinTracker CSV format.
- Go to the Wallets page > Click Add wallet.
- Enter FTXUS and follow the steps to upload your CSV.
Important: Save a copy of your FTX Trade History CSV so you have a record of your original file.
Steps to convert FTX CSV to CoinTracker Format
With your downloaded FTX Trade History CSV, follow these instructions to reformat your file:
- Import your CSV to your preferred spreadsheet tool.
- Remove the following columns: ID, Order Type, and TWAP.
- Use the Find and replace tool to find all commas (,), and Replace with field, leave it blank.
- Rename the Time column to Date and reformat it to: MM/DD/YYYY HH:MM:SS
- Add the following columns after the Date column: Received Quantity, Received Currency, Sent Quantity, Sent Currency.
- For all Buy transactions:
- Enter the left asset of the Market column as the Received Currency column.
- Copy/paste the Size value to the Received Quantity column.
- Enter the right asset of the Market column as the Sent Currency column.
- Copy/paste the Total amount into the Sent Quantity column.
7. For all Sell transactions:
- Enter the left asset of the Market column as the Sent Currency column.
- Copy/paste the Size value to the Sent Quantity column.
- Enter the right asset of the Market column as the Received Currency column.
- Copy/paste the Total amount into the Received Quantity column.
Below is a screenshot of one Buy and Sell transaction that have each been updated to the correct format. Apply these changes to all the rows:
8. Remove the following columns: Market, Side, Size, Price, and Total.
9. Rename the Fee column header to Fee Amount.
10. For all rows that have no Fee Amount, enter 0. Here is the final result:
Import other transactions
To import deposits, withdrawals, NFT transactions, conversions, airdrops, and other transactions, convert them to the same CSV format as the trade history file for CoinTracker. If you've already imported a FTX US file, ensure all subsequent files are imported into the same wallet from the Wallets page.
