CoinTracker automatically marks exchanges that have shut down or filed for bankruptcy as defunct. This excludes their stale balances from your portfolio totals and hides it from your Wallets page, while preserving your transaction history, cost basis, and tax data.
A defunct account:
- Will show a reported balance of $0.
- Displays a Marked defunct by CoinTracker badge on the Wallets page.
- Stops syncing attempts.
- Is excluded from your portfolio balance and Account Health warnings.
- Is hidden from the wallet list by default.
To show defunct accounts in your Wallets list, open the Hide menu on the Wallets page and toggle off Defunct exchanges.
Exchanges currently marked as defunct
CoinTracker auto-applies the defunct state to the following exchanges:
- BlockFi
- Celsius
- FTX
- Genesis
- Mt. Gox
- Voyager
Why your portfolio balance dropped
If your portfolio value went down recently, it may be because one of your exchanges was newly marked as defunct. The balance from the defunct account is no longer counted toward your portfolio totals.
Note: This is a portfolio display change, not a tax event. Your transaction history and cost basis remain unchanged.
