When you don't want CoinTracker to track an exchange or wallet anymore — for example, an exchange you've stopped using or a wallet that only holds dust — you can archive it.
Archiving stops the sync and removes the account's reported balance from your portfolio totals, while keeping your transaction history and cost basis as-is. You can unarchive the account whenever you want.
To archive a wallet or exchange:
- Navigate to the Wallets page.
- Find the wallet or exchange you want to archive.
- Select the [...] icon next to its name.
- Select Archive from the dropdown menu.
After archiving, the reported balance on the wallet will show $0, stop sync attempts, and the wallet becomes hidden from the Wallets list. Your transaction history, calculated balance, and cost basis will remain intact — archiving a wallet does not have a tax impact.
CoinTracker will also suppresses these Account Health alerts for the archived account:
- Balance differences.
- Re-sync notifications.
View archived accounts
To show archived accounts in your Wallets list, open the Hide menu on the Wallets page and toggle off Archived accounts or exchanges.
Unarchive an account
- Navigate to the Wallets page and toggle off the Archived accounts or exchanges option within the Hide menu.
- Find the archived wallet or exchange.
- Select the [...] icon next to its name.
- Select Restore from the dropdown menu to unarchive.
Unarchiving restores the wallet's active status and includes it's balance to your portfolio total. Any transactions you added manually while the account was archived are preserved.
Archive vs. Defunct
A wallet's archive and defunct status will produce the same outcome: a $0 reported balance, sync attempts stop, and the account is hidden from your Wallets list by default.
The difference is how the wallet status is applied — you archive an account yourself, while CoinTracker automatically marks known bankrupt or shutdown exchanges (like FTX or Celsius) as defunct. To learn more, see Why is my exchange marked as defunct.
