Exchanges often have missing transaction data, such as cost basis or a transaction's acquisition date. You can update this information manually on CoinTracker by ensuring the correct category is being used.
Below is a description of these categories and how they impact the cost basis provided to your exchange. Please be sure to categorize your transactions correctly before sending them to your exchange.
Transaction types
Bridge in: You transferred assets to yourself on another chain.
- Cost basis carries over from your Bridge out transaction.
Gift: You received assets as a gift.
- Cost basis is Fair Market Value (FMV) at the time of receipt.
Other income: You received income through various activities.
- Cost basis is Fair Market Value (FMV) at the time of receipt.
Payment: You received assets as a form of payment for goods or services.
- Cost basis is Fair Market Value (FMV) at the time of receipt.
Receive: You received an asset.
- Cost basis is Fair Market Value (FMV) at the time of receipt.
Transfer (to self): You moved assets between your own wallets or exchanges.
- Cost basis carries over between your wallets.
Update your transaction category on CoinTracker
- Sign in to CoinTracker and go to the Transactions page.
- Select the Category dropdown to filter your transactions.
- Select the transaction category you'd like to update.
- Select the [...] icon to the far right of the transaction you'd like to update.
- Select Change category or Edit transaction, depending on what you'd like to change.
- Update your transaction.
