With recommended accounts, you’ll be prompted to add additional exchanges and wallets you’ve used in the past for a complete picture of your taxes.
Where will I see Recommended accounts?
Recommended accounts will be visible at the top of the Wallets page and in the guided tax journey.
How does it work?
You’ll see a list of exchanges and wallets you currently use or have used in the past. You can add them to CoinTracker or ignore them.
Add an account
If you’d like to add an account, select Add. The newly added account will show up under Wallets. If you run into challenges when adding an account, you can learn more about adding wallets and exchanges.
Ignore an account
If you’d like to ignore an account, select the X icon. This will filter the account in the Ignored tab above the list of accounts.
And if you ignore an account and later decide you’d like to add it, you can do so by selecting the Ignored tab, locating the account, and then selecting Add.
Should I add all Recommended accounts?
You should add all the exchanges and wallets you use or have used in the past. This ensures there’s a complete picture of your crypto taxes, helps maintain cost basis tracking across transfers, and assists with filling in gaps in your 1099-DAs preventing overstated gains.
What if I’ve lost access to an account?
If you’ve lost access to an account, but you used it in the past, you should still add it to CoinTracker, even if the crypto in that account was reported lost or stolen. This allows us to accurately track cost basis of assets.
What if an exchange is no longer operational?
Just like with losing access to an account, it’s best to add every and all accounts you’ve ever used—even if the exchange is no longer operational. You can learn more about bankrupt exchanges here.
Why am I seeing accounts I don’t own?
Don’t worry. Seeing an account you don’t own can happen for a variety of reasons. One cause is if you've issued payments to other crypto holders’ accounts in the past. If you don’t recognize the account, or it isn’t your wallet, you can safely ignore it.
I’m having trouble adding a recommended account?
If you’re having trouble adding a recommended account, try following these methods to add a wallet or exchange.
Where does CoinTracker get this data?
