Transactions are fundamental to the accuracy of all calculations in CoinTracker. Errors in your capital gains, cost basis, or other account numbers usually stem from incorrect or incomplete transaction histories. To correct any inaccuracies, you'll need to inspect and possibly edit or add transactions in your CoinTracker account.
First Steps to Correct Inaccuracies in CoinTracker
1. Check for Missing Transaction History
This is often the primary source of errors. Ensure you've added your complete crypto transaction history, including any cold storage wallets or defunct exchanges. Use our Complete Transaction History Checklist as a guide.
2. Sync Wallets
Manually sync your wallets to include the latest transactions in your calculations. For instructions on how to do this, see: How to Manually Sync Wallets and Exchanges.
3. 'Needs Review' Transactions
Some transactions may have missing or incorrect information affecting your tax calculations or portfolio. These will be flagged for review. Check if you have any transactions that need review by clicking here. For more details on resolving these errors, refer to: Understanding 'Needs Review' Transactions.
4. Re-import Wallets
If we've enhanced our integration support since your last sync, use the re-import feature to update your wallets without losing manual edits. Learn more about this feature here: Understanding and Using the Re-import Wallet Feature.
Other Common Causes of Inaccurate Numbers
Ignored Transactions
Check your ignored transactions. Even minor ignored transactions can significantly affect your account's calculations. Ensure you have justified reasons for ignoring these transactions.
Find your ignored transactions on the Transactions page by using the Status filter and selecting 'Ignored'.
'Send' Transactions Assumed Taxable
Outgoing transactions are typically treated as taxable unless the receiving wallet is known. If an outgoing transaction is actually a transfer or trade, add the receiving wallet or exchange, or edit the missing transaction details to correct this.
Find your 'Send' transactions on the Transactions page by using the Category filter and selecting 'Send'.
Transfer Matching
Manually edit mismatched transfers to ensure the correct transaction sides are aligned.
Uncategorized Manual Transactions in "Other Transactions" Wallet
If you've added manual transactions they will appear as uncategorized in the Other Transactions Wallet. Should any of these transactions actually relate to a tracked wallet or exchange on CoinTracker, you must edit each transaction to reflect the appropriate exchange or wallet. Additionally, ensure that these manual, uncategorized transactions are not duplicates of transactions that have auto-synced from your wallets or exchanges.
Pending Transactions
Pending transactions are not included in the current market value until the trade is completed. After the trade is complete, it will automatically be updated in CoinTracker.
Wallet-Specific Considerations That Cause Wrong Numbers
Coinbase Pro
If you ever used Coinbase Pro, the transaction history needs to be added to CoinTracker even if Coinbase is already. Coinbase Pro needs to be added independently due to Coinbase's infrastructure. We have instructions for adding Coinbase Pro history to CoinTracker, if you did not sync it before the API was deprecated.
Distributions and Bonuses
For exchanges like Binance and KuCoin, manually add any distributions or bonuses not tracked via their API. You can add individual manual transactions or import a CSV with the missing transactions to the synced exchange.
De-listed Coins
Add transactions for de-listed coins ensuring they are correctly tagged to the respective wallet. You can add individual manual transactions or import a CSV with the missing transactions to the synced exchange.
KuCoin
For transactions before 2/18/2019 on KuCoin, refer to the KuCoin integration guide to sync your full transaction history.
