This guide explains why you might see the same transaction more than once in your account, how to spot these duplicates, and what to do about them if you find any.
What causes duplicate transactions in CoinTracker?
Duplicate entries can happen for a variety of reasons:
- Importing the same CSV file more than once
- Importing a CSV when the wallet or exchange is already synced: Doing so can lead to duplicating transactions that the system has automatically imported.
- Importing additional transactions by CSV to an already existing wallet
- Bugs: Occasionally, duplicates may emerge from glitches or errors within the software, causing transactions to be recorded more than once.
How to Find Duplicate Transactions
To spot duplicate entries, consider the following approaches:
- Review individual transactions: Look through each transaction on the Transactions page, checking for identical date and token amounts. For wallets synced via a public address, duplicate transactions will have identical transaction hashes.
- Review transaction history CSV with data tools: Use Google Sheets or Excel to highlight or flag duplicate entries.
- Review Wallets page for duplicate wallets: Duplicate transactions entries can also lead to doubled or increased wallet values.
How to Resolve Duplicate Transactions
- Confirm it's a duplicate: Ensure that the entry identified is indeed a duplicate and not a separate transaction occurring under similar circumstances.
- For blockchain duplicates: Consider utilizing the re-import feature.
- For exchange duplicates: Attempt a re-import first. If the issue persists, ignoring the duplicate may be necessary, but it's important to report this behavior. Reporting helps in identifying the bug, which is crucial for preventing such issues in the future.
- Remove one of the duplicate wallets: If duplicate wallets are discovered, deleting one can help solve the problem.
- Opt to ignore one of the duplicates: If other solutions do not work, you can ignore or delete one of the entries to correct the issue.
