What is the 'Insufficient quantity' error?
The 'Insufficient Quantity' error in CoinTracker typically indicates missing or inaccurate transaction history for a wallet or exchange.
It is flagging that a token balance in a wallet or exchange is going negative. Since it is not technically possible to have a negative asset balance, CoinTracker flags the transaction where the negative balance occurs so the discrepancy can be reconciled.

How can I tell if a transaction has an 'Insufficient quantity' flag?
Let’s look at an example of what these 'Insufficient quantity' flags look like. Here we have a Sell disposal of BTC that resulted in an 'Insufficient quantity' flag:
CoinTracker doesn't have records of receiving .00082441 BTC of the .001 disposal, so the transaction history for BTC may be incomplete or inaccurate. In other words, CoinTracker has no record of that BTC entering the Coinbase BTC wallet to cover this outgoing amount.
CoinTracker assumes a cost basis of $0 for either a partial amount or the entire disposal quantity due to the absence of recorded cost basis.
What causes an 'Insufficient quantity' error on my transaction?
CoinTracker uses this message primarily to indicate that some transaction history for that wallet or exchange is missing or inaccurate within CoinTracker. This can happen if:
- Not all wallets or exchanges were added to CoinTracker: Complete Transaction History Checklist
- CoinTracker was unable to obtain the full transaction history for a wallet address.
- An exchange API does not provide the full transaction history to CoinTracker.
- An imported CSV file is missing or has incorrect transactions.
- CoinTracker is treating certain types of transactions, such as transfers, DeFi, or NFTs, incorrectly (i.e., illiquid staking, unmatched transfers, unsupported tokens such as new ERC standards, etc.).
- Asset quantities with a lot of decimal points are rounded up, causing small discrepancies.
Example: 'Insufficient quantity' Error Due to Missing Wallet
Issue: This user transferred ~25 SOL from a self-custody SOL wallet to Coinbase and after the transaction was complete the user had an ending balance of negative ~25 SOL indicating they sent more SOL than they are holding.
This is an example of an insufficient balance that is likely due to missing or incorrect transaction history. One clue is the relatively larger size of the negative quantity.
This account holder can compare their transaction history from their Solana wallet with the transaction history on a block explorer or wallet history.
Solution: In this case, the user should add their self-custody wallet to CoinTracker to correct this 'Insufficient quantity' error.
Example: 'Insufficient quantity' Error Due to Staking
Here is a stETH transaction with a smaller discrepancy:
In this example, you can see that CoinTracker is flagging this transaction resulting in a missing balance of negative ~0.048XXX stETH. This is an example partially missing data due to the nature of staking. In this case, LIDO staked ETH increases in quantity on-chain but is not reflected as received staking rewards.
